Training

We believe that knowledge, as well as the operator/owner proficiency with the LM power plant, are one of the most important aspects of achieving top availability and reliability. By knowledge, we mean operators and plant maintenance crew that are completely familiar and trained with their installed units, its sub-package systems, the operation, and its maintenance philosophy. They also have in-depth knowledge of the control system and its powerful troubleshooting tools.

Through our years of working with LM gas turbines, we have seen a need for more site specific and customer tailored training. Based on this we have tailor made training courses. The courses fill in the gap from the typical industry provided familiarization course, and the operation and control system with focus on “hands-on” training.

Courses

Vicosol provides comprehensive course packages covering the LM gas turbine control system. Leveraging our experience and specialized knowledge of LM control systems, including their operations, troubleshooting, and optimization, we believe Vicosol is uniquely positioned to offer these courses.

Our strategy involves tailoring course modules to match participants’ specific machinery and generation of installed equipment. This approach ensures a customized learning experience tailored to each installation and/or generation of turbine control system. When placing an order, an order matrix is arranged based on the type of turbine and the installed/generation of equipment.

  • Review of an LM turbine package, seen from a controls point of view
  • Review of the site-specific Controls HW layout, with in depth review of the parts and functionality
  • Review of the Woodward GAP software and navigation in the SW. Get to understand the evaluation of fuel control, sequences in the logic as well as the alarms. In addition, get introduced to, and trained to use the debugging tools as well as other relevant Woodward SW tools.
  • Thorough review of the turbine control system with the focus on practical use
  • Understand the relation between C&E, alarm setpoints listed in P&ID vs setup in GAP SW
  • Interactions with other systems (SAS / F&G / AVR)
  • Fuel valves function, wiring and signals
  • General maintenance of control system

Outcome of the controls training course is to close the gap between drawings, subsystems, field instruments and logic in the control system. The course modules is built around practical use of the control system, with extensive use of exercises, real world cases, and best practice. With usage of a simulator, we can run the actual installed code and the participants can train «online» with a simulated code in real time.

Courses

We have established a Woodward Turbine control system training course, where the idea is to tailor the training course to the installation’s mix of installed equipment and the generation of control system/equipment.

In addition, together with our partner TTP, we can provide detailed 3D animated familiarization training for the entire gas turbine packages.

We can provide our customers with training based on the customer equipment and setup. The following training can be provided:

  • Advanced controls training
  • Basic DLE mapping training
  • Electrical generator controls training
  • Gas turbine engine & package familiarization
  • On-site borescope training
